Who We Are

Reaching Higher

Do you get bored during your summer vacation? Do you want to hang out with adventurous women and learn about the great outdoors? Then we have a FREE program for you!

Through their More Kids in the Woods Program, the U.S. Forest Service awarded Plumas National Forest (PNF) and Women's Mountain Passages $20,000 for Reaching Higher - Environmental Connections, a program that provides girls with outdoor experiences through youth stewardship, service learning and other outdoor activities.

Environmental Connections works with girls ages eleven to fifteen to enhance their environmental connectedness, resiliency and leadership skills. The girls participate in outdoor recreation and leadership activities such as orienteering, leading educational hikes for Sixth Grade Outdoor Education and job shadowing with female Forest Service employees.

Environmental Connections meets on Wednesdays from 3:30 to 5:30 at the Forest Service Supervisor's Office on Lawrence Street in Quincy starting June 4. Programming will run from June to October of 2008 and may include watershed restoration, Tree of Life podcasting, and organic farming.
