Who We Are

Plumas County Youth Mentoring

Women's Mountain Passages has partnered with Plumas Rural Services (PRS) and Plumas Unified School District to develop and implement Plumas County Youth Mentoring (PCYM), an after-school peer mentoring program in Chester, Greenville, Quincy and Portola. PCYM matches trained high school youth with middle school students. Mentors and protégés meet weekly for supervised activities throughout the school year developing supportive, caring relationships and opportunities for growth in safe environments, thus increasing their resiliency. All mentors receive training and support from PCYM staff as well as the opportunity to earn college credits through Feather River College.

All 4th-8th grade and high school students are eligible for the program and adults can volunteer through PRS' Community Connections, a time banking service exchange program. Members of Community Connections exchange services with each other and receive time credits which can be redeemed for an equal number of hours of services. PCYM offers educational, social and cultural experiences and field trips where participants can explore additional recreational and youth development activities. These include ropes courses, hiking, cooking, games, art and more. For more information contact Jamie Williams, Youth Program Coordinator, at 283-0859 or jamielauren AT live.com. Please see the calendar for dates and times.
